Encaustic Mixed Media 5"x5"
I picked up a few tins of Enkausticos encaustic wax paint this fall and I fell in love with this gorgeous Anthraquinone Blue. Daniel Smith has a lovely selection here. I find the intensity of the blue so seductive with moodiness of the photo and the luminosity of the titanium white. Transparency in wax is a very interesting quality.
I'm not sure if it's because my studio space is so chilly this winter or if it's the nature of the Enkausticos but I'm finding it hard to melt the top layer of the wax. It seems to keep a bit of a skin on it. I'm learning to work with the transparency and the gorgeous texture created by the thicker bits of the skin.
