I was snapping photos of the art work on the Ultramat Laundry in Santa Cruz when Mike started telling me about other public art in town that I might want to check out.  When he heard I was from Seattle he shared that he'd been in the military and stationed in a nearby town during the Seattle World's Fair.  I asked him how old he was.  He just said "pretty old".

NaPhoPoMo Day #3 Flying Home

Today found us flying home.  It was hard to leave the gorgeous weather and wonderful people.  It's lovely to be snuggled up at home though watching Hocus Pocus a few days later than planned with my sweet boy.

Here's an extra shot of some fabulous texture I couldn't pass up.

NaPhoPoMo Day #2

November 2nd found us still in Santa Cruz visiting dear friends and family.

Karen Walrond (chookooloonks) has declared it National Photo Posting Month.  I'm wanting to add regular blogging to my art practice.  Apparently I work best with a clearly defined objective and most importantly a deadline or an end.  I can't commit to posting daily forever more but I can commit to posting a photo daily for November.  So it will be.  I'm posting two photos today since I didn't post yesterday.

California Travel Journal & The Inexpansiveness of Time

The Summer 2012 California Vacation is coming to a close.  I'm realizing I have an unrealistic sense of time, or perhaps more accurately, what I can accomplish in a finite period of time.  With each trip, I vow to spend more time relaxing, reading, blogging, journaling but I always, always, end up spending most of my time seeing what there is to see, doing what there is to do. 

That brings me to today.  We arrived home last night after a two week road trip to California.  Lots to share about that but today I was craving creative time.  So I got started on the travel journal I expected to mostly complete on the road.  Yea, I was optimisitic.  On the upside, I get to relive the joys of our travels in the evenings and weekends to come as I put what I hope will be a delicious gathering of memories together.  So really, it's a beginning tucked into the end of a fabulous trip.

Road Trip (part 2) Keep Portland Weird

Day two of our road trip included a stroll around Nye Beach (Newport), lunch at Ona Restaurant (Yachats) where my fabulously sister cooks the most delicious food, a short hike at Cape Perpetua where we discovered the remains of a Conservation Corp Camp, agate hunting on a nearby beach, and yummy dinner with my sister's family. 

Day three found us headed home with a stop in Portland.  Browsing at Powell's, not to be missed truffle oil fries at Little Big Burger, and sweets for the road courtesy of Voodoo Donuts.  Imelda May serenaded us much of the way home.

 

Road Trip (part 1)

A long weekend and an upcoming birthday for a very important someone often leads to a road trip in our family.  This weekend has been no different.  Complete with gorgeous knitting, delicious food and tea, art, beaches, and relaxing.  Lots of relaxing.
